Somatic Intelligence

The Feminine

Edge

A leadership methodology for women. Six somatic capacities that give women leaders sharper decisions, stronger teams, and a way of leading that doesn’t require self-abandonment to sustain it.

Facilitated by Rouxvé Van Wyk  ·  Tinolla Rodgers  ·  Lelanie Basson

Why This Work

The Shift

There is a conversation happening in boardrooms, leadership programmes, and DEI strategies right now and it sounds something like this: we are developing our female leaders. We are investing in women. That investment matters. And the future of leadership asks us to go further.

Because most of what organisations offer women in leadership is a refined version of what they offer men. Strategic thinking. Executive presence. Negotiation skills. Confidence. All valuable. And all built on the same foundation — the analytical, linear, action-first model of leadership.

What this model doesn't account for is the cost of asking women to operate exclusively from it. For decades, the path to the top required a woman to lead from the neck up — to treat her body as a vehicle for output, her emotions as liabilities to manage, her intuition as something too soft to trust in a boardroom. The cost shows up as burnout, dysregulation, fragmented decision-making, and a persistent sense of leading at less than full capacity.

Somatic Intelligence is a methodology developed by Rouxvé Van Wyk, former actuary and management consultant, that activates a different and complementary intelligence: the feminine. One that is measurably relevant to leadership performance, team cohesion, and decision quality — and that most leadership development programmes don't yet have the framework to name, let alone develop.

The methodology develops six specific capacities, the Six Somatic Codes, that are native to the feminine way of knowing. Together, they give women leaders a genuine and distinct edge: sharper decisions, stronger teams, and a more sustainable way of leading that doesn't require self-abandonment to sustain it.

Woman in black dress, desert setting

It is a different intelligence entirely.

The feminine way of knowing is not a softer version of the masculine way. And when organisations fail to activate it, they leave some of their most powerful leadership capacity on the table.

— Rouxvé Van Wyk

This Is Not a Training

It is a Reclamation.

Most women's leadership programmes teach women how to perform better inside the existing model. Somatic Intelligence does something different: it reconnects women to the full range of intelligence they were always carrying and teaches them to lead from all of it.

The methodology addresses the internal state of the leader, not just her strategy. Because how a woman leads is inseparable from how she inhabits her body. When she is disconnected from her somatic intelligence — as most corporate environments quietly demand — the cost shows up as burnout, dysregulation, fragmented decision-making, and a persistent sense of leading at less than full capacity.

This is a delivered methodology, shaped to the organisation and held by facilitators with deep expertise at the intersection of corporate leadership, somatic practice, and women's development.

Anatomy of the Feminine Edge

The Six
Somatic Codes

Six capacities.

Native to the feminine.

Reclaimed through the body.

Each one an intelligence that has always lived inside her, waiting to be descended into, developed, and brought fully into how she leads.

The body is not a distraction from intelligence.
It is the seat of it.

When a woman learns to descend into her somatic wisdom, to lead from wholeness rather than from the neck up, she accesses a quality of intelligence, decision-making, and presence that changes everything.

— Rouxvé Van Wyk

1

Intuition

The body's knowing that arrives before the mind catches up — and the ability to trust it, read it, and act from it with precision.

2

Creativity & Out-of-the-Box Thinking

The capacity to perceive possibilities that do not yet exist, accessed through the body, not despite it.

3

Connection

The ability to create genuine human connection. The kind that builds trust deep enough for people to bring their whole capability to the work.

4

Feeling & Emotional Alchemy

The ability to remain present with what is moving through the body, read its information, and lead from that wisdom with clarity and maturity.

5

Receptivity & Field Intelligence

The ability to read the invisible — the collective emotional field of a room or team — and to lead from that reading with intention and grace.

6

Embodiment

The ability to fully inhabit her leadership without mask, without performance — from a place of authentic authority that is felt before it is spoken.

Inside the Methodology

What Happens in the Work

Each of the Six Somatic Codes is developed through guided practice, experiential process, and embodied learning. The methodology goes beneath strategy and mindset to address the internal state of the leader — because a woman’s most powerful intelligence does not live in her head. It lives in her whole being.

1

Intuition

Intuition is the body's ability to process information faster and more broadly than the conscious mind, and to signal what it knows through felt sense. For many women, years of leading from the neck up have quieted this signal. The first Somatic Code is about turning the volume back up — recognising where intuition lives in her own body, and distinguishing a genuine somatic signal from fear, conditioning, or reactivity. What does a full-bodied yes feel like? What does a clear no feel like?

2

Creativity & Out-of-the-Box Thinking

Creativity is not a personality trait. It is an intelligence, and it lives below the neck. The most genuinely innovative thinking does not come from pressing harder on existing logic — it comes from expanding the field of what is perceptible. This code develops lateral thinking by reconnecting women to their somatic creative intelligence: the capacity to perceive patterns before they are articulable.

3

Connection

The ability to create genuine human connection is one of the most powerful and undervalued leadership capacities available — and it is native to the feminine. Not networking. Not rapport-building. Real connection: the kind that allows another person to feel truly seen, and that creates the psychological safety for a team to bring its full capability to the work. When women lead from this capacity, the culture around them changes. People stop performing and start contributing.

4

Feeling & Emotional Alchemy

Emotions are not disruptions. They are data. Anger may indicate a boundary has been crossed and a courageous action is required. Sadness may reveal that something deeply meaningful has been lost or overlooked. The practice is not to react from that feeling nor to suppress it, but to descend into it, extract its information, and respond from grounded clarity. This is emotional alchemy: transforming raw feeling into precise, sovereign action.

5

Receptivity & Field Intelligence

Every room has a field — a collective emotional and energetic environment created by everyone in it. A woman with developed field intelligence can read it, name it, and lead from her reading. She walks into a meeting and immediately senses the energetic temperature. And then she can move that energy: if the room is depleted, she energises it; if it is chaotic, she brings coherence. This is not intuition as a vague feeling. It is a precision instrument.

6

Embodiment

Embodiment is the integration of who she is with how she leads. It is the place where all six codes converge and the thing that makes them sustainable. Many women have spent years adapting themselves to fit cultures that were not designed for them. Embodiment is the process of reconnecting to the woman underneath all of that — her leadership stops being something she performs and becomes something she is. It is felt before it is spoken. It fills a room without effort.

One Methodology

Four Ways to Enter.

Every engagement is custom-scoped with the organisational sponsor. The four formats below are the standard entry points. Any of them can be delivered at your preferred venue, at Nambwa Tented Lodge in Namibia, or in combination.

1

Keynote

60–90 minutes

An experiential keynote that introduces the premise of Somatic Intelligence and the Six Somatic Codes. Designed for conferences, leadership gatherings, Women's Month activations, and annual events. Every keynote is customised to the audience and organisational context, and includes experiential elements that move participants from passive listening into active engagement. Best when you want to seed the methodology across a large audience before deeper work begins.

2

Team Activation

3 hours or full day

A signature experiential session for women's leadership teams. Designed to produce immediate shifts in trust, communication, and collective intelligence. Configurable as a Women's Month activation, a team cohesion session, or a workshop aligned to a specific organisational challenge. Best when the team needs a decisive shift in dynamic — from competition and disconnection into something more alive, more trusting, more generative.

3

Leadership Immersion

3 to 5 days

A deep-dive executive immersion for organisations seeking to develop a genuine feminine leadership edge. Delivered at Nambwa Tented Lodge or a venue of your choice, this multi-day experience creates the conditions for women leaders to step away from operational demands and descend into the work, building the Six Somatic Codes through guided practice, embodied learning, and facilitated process.

4

Custom Experience

Scoped to brief

A fully bespoke engagement designed around your organisational calendar and strategic context. Combines keynote, activation, and immersion formats into a single integrated programme. Ideal for multi-phase leadership development, Women's Month campaigns, annual women's leadership retreats, or organisations seeking a distinctive immersion at Nambwa woven with conservation and community impact.

Made for Organisations

Ready to Lead

Differently

Somatic Intelligence produces its most decisive outcomes when the organisation is ready to invest in women's leadership as a genuine capability — one that transforms not just how women perform, but how they show up, relate, decide, and sustain themselves in the process.

HR Directors and People Leaders

Where performance, culture, and wellbeing converge. This methodology supports cultural alignment across women's leadership teams, develops leadership capability at every level, and produces measurable behavioural change that extends far beyond the engagement itself. For people leaders who know that retaining exceptional women requires giving them something worth staying for.

Executive & Women's Leadership Teams

Teams navigating growth, transition, or a shift in leadership culture. When the team needs to move from competition and disconnection into trust, cohesion, and aligned leadership — and when individual women are ready to stop fragmenting themselves between who they are at work and who they are everywhere else.

DEI and Women's ERG Leads

Organisations committed to gender equity that are ready to move beyond awareness into substantive development. This methodology gives women a genuine framework for leading from their full range of intelligence — one that honours what is distinctly feminine as a leadership asset, not an obstacle to manage.

Organisations Integrating Performance, Wellbeing, and Purpose

Where the conversation has moved from compliance to strategic advantage. Where leadership needs not just to understand integration intellectually, but to experience what it actually feels like — in the body, in the room, and in the decisions that follow.

Women's Month Activations

Organisations seeking a Women's Month engagement that is substantive, memorable, and genuinely developmental. The keynote and team activation formats are specifically designed to deliver a meaningful experience within a conference or event context — one that participants carry in their bodies long after the day ends.

Rouxvé Van Wyk

Founder of the Somatic Leadership Methodology · Co-Founder of The Feminine Edge

Rouxvé Van Wyk is a leadership facilitator who helps high-performing women reconnect to the full range of their intelligence and lead from all of it. Trained as an actuary and formerly a management consultant at a boutique German firm advising investment banks, she spent years inside environments where precision, pressure, and performance defined success — and saw firsthand what it costs a woman to lead exclusively from the neck up.

That experience is the foundation of her work. Rouxvé knows the corporate model from the inside. She also knows what it takes to descend back into the intelligence the model conditioned out, and what becomes possible when a woman stops fragmenting herself between who she is at work and who she is everywhere else.

Through Somatic Intelligence, she facilitates teams of women leaders to move from competition and disconnection into trust, cohesion, and aligned leadership. Her work integrates somatic practice, nervous system regulation, and intuitive decision-making with the strategic rigour of her corporate background — because the Feminine Edge is not a rejection of analytical thinking. It is what happens when analytical thinking finally has its full partner.

Co-Facilitator · African Monarch Journeys & Retreats in the Wild

Tinolla Rodgers is the owner and Managing Director of African Monarch Journeys and the founder of Retreats in the Wild, a transformative retreat movement rooted in the wilderness of Africa. Born in Namibia and trained in hospitality management, she spent more than three decades building her career across some of Africa's most celebrated safari destinations before returning home to shape one of Namibia's most soulful, conservation-driven hospitality brands.

Her understanding of transformation is not theoretical. When her husband and business partner was diagnosed with two cancers just six months into their marriage, Tinolla entered a deeply personal journey through grief, loss, and rebuilding — one that unfolded inside the wild landscapes of Bwabwata National Park. Living within that wilderness, she witnessed firsthand what nature does to a human being when they finally stop performing and allow themselves to be held. That experience became the foundation of everything she creates.

Following her husband's passing, Tinolla led African Monarch Journeys forward alone — without outside investors, without a business partner — guided by intuition, resilience, and an unshakeable sense of purpose. Today the brand encompasses Nambwa Tented Lodge, Kazile Island Lodge, The Sijwa Project, and Retreats in the Wild, all situated within the KAZA Transfrontier Conservation Area.

Co-Facilitator · Twafiika Consultants

Lelanie Basson is a governance architect, AI strategist, and the founder of Twafiika Consultants, with over fifteen years advising governments, regulators, and corporates on strategy, governance, and digital transformation across African networks and into the USA, Europe, the UAE, and China. She sits on the technical committee shaping Namibia's National AI Strategy, serves as Women in AI Ambassador for Namibia, and co-founded both the Namibian Institute of Corporate Governance and an AI-driven HR platform now operating across four countries.

She also designs how leadership is taught, developing postgraduate leadership curricula for universities and business schools, and lecturing across strategic management, supply chain, communications, and cultural negotiation. Through Twafiika she partners with Harvard ManageMentor and Bloomberg.

Her argument is sharp: as AI automates the technical, human capability becomes the real competitive edge. Presence, judgement, and the ability to lead from a steady centre are no longer soft skills. They are the work. Lelanie brings the strategic rigour, institutional credibility, and pedagogical depth that turn Somatic Intelligence from a wellbeing conversation into a leadership strategy — and that give organisations the business case to invest in it at the highest level.

Custom Design

When the Work Wants to Go Deeper

Some organisations arrive with a context that calls for something beyond a standard format — a specific challenge, a particular group of women, a moment in the organisation's life that asks for something more precisely designed. For those organisations, the methodology is built from the ground up around the specific brief.

When Custom Design Makes Sense

Multi-phase engagements that weave together a keynote, an activation, and a later immersion as a single integrated programme across a 3 to 12 month window

Organisations seeking to embed Somatic Intelligence into their existing women's leadership curriculum, with the methodology woven into rather than placed alongside their own frameworks

Annual women's leadership retreats or Women's Month campaigns that call for a distinctive, fully designed experience from start to finish

Leadership teams navigating a specific cultural or relational challenge that requires a bespoke intervention rather than a packaged one

Organisations seeking a multi-day immersion at Nambwa Tented Lodge, woven with conservation, community, and The Sijwa Project

How It Works

Every custom engagement begins with a discovery conversation. A focused conversation to understand what the organisation is working on, what the women in the room are carrying, and what the engagement needs to move. From that conversation, a tailored design is built: methodology, practices, integration tools, venue, logistics, and investment.

The methodology remains singular. The architecture around it descends as deep as the work requires.

Integration Pathways

The WORK

Doesn't End When the Calendar Event Does

The engagement is where the descent begins. These integration pathways extend the work into the weeks and months that follow, supporting the embedding of the Six Somatic Codes into a woman's daily leadership practice, and ensuring the reconnection that happened in the room becomes a permanent shift in how she operates.

1

The Somatic Intelligence Workbook

A written companion to the methodology, guiding participants through the reflection and embodiment practices that form the structured layer of the work. Designed to be used during the engagement and continued for ninety days afterwards. Available as an organisational gift at delegate level and can be co-branded with the organisation's identity.

2

Retreats

For women continuing the work after a corporate engagement, for high-potential talent as a development investment, or as a recognition gift within performance programmes. Rouxvé and her co-facilitators host immersions at Nambwa Tented Lodge and at other locations. Available as open enrolment or as private organisational retreats.

3

Online Executive Leadership Coaching

Structured one-on-one coaching that embeds the Six Somatic Codes into a woman's daily leadership practice in the months following the engagement. Delivered online and scoped to the individual's leadership context, developmental goals, and the specific codes she is ready to build.

4

Somatic Leadership Masterminds

A peer-based group programme for women leaders who have completed a Somatic Intelligence engagement and are ready to go further. Held online in small cohorts, the Mastermind creates a sustained community of practice — a space where women continue building the Six Somatic Codes in the living context of their actual leadership.

Community Impact

The Sijwa Project

Curated Corporate Gifting with Measurable Community Impact

The Sijwa Project is African Monarch Journeys' sustainability and skills development programme. All waste generated across the African Monarch lodges is consciously redirected into the Sijwa Project, where local artisans repurpose materials into craft, textiles, and homeware. The programme has been featured at SA Fashion Week and recognised with an ATTA Award for community conservation.

Organisations engaging through Nambwa can include curated Sijwa pieces as leadership gifts within any engagement. Each piece is artisan-made, traceable to the specific Sijwa programme, and accompanied by a provenance card identifying the maker and the materials from which it was created.

Every Sijwa purchase contributes directly to artisan livelihoods and to Mayuni Conservancy conservation work. Contributions can be reported against the organisation's ESG and CSR commitments as measurable community and conservation spend.

The Venue

When the Immersion is at Nambwa

For immersion and custom engagements, Nambwa Tented Lodge is more than a venue. It is a field in itself, one that does something to the nervous system that no conference room can do. The wilderness slows the body down. It opens perceptual capacity. It reveals what is true when the noise of ordinary life is no longer available to drown it out.

Nambwa Tented Lodge sits inside Bwabwata National Park in Namibia's Eastern Zambezi Region. The park forms part of KAZA, the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area: the largest terrestrial conservation area on Earth. Nambwa is one of only a handful of lodges operating inside Bwabwata. Guests are not visiting the wilderness. They are living inside it.

How Engagements Take Shape

The Creation Process

Every engagement begins with a discovery conversation. A focused thirty-minute call to understand what the organisation is working on, confirm fit, and scope an indicative approach and investment. No commitment is required. Just an honest conversation about what is needed and whether this is the right work for it.

Every Engagement Follows a Five-Step Arc

Timelines vary by format and availability, from two weeks for a keynote to three months for an immersion or custom engagement.

Begin theConversation

If something on this page landed. If there is a woman in your organisation, or a team of them, who you sense is leading at less than her full capacity, the next step is a thirty-minute conversation. The purpose is simply to understand what you are working on, and to explore together whether Somatic Intelligence is the right fit.

No commitment is required at this stage. Just a conversation.
